Act I
Jonathan Mendez Dance Academy
Summer Performance

I believe that Dance is the perfect tool to transform the lives of our students. At Jonathan Mendez Dance Academy we make sure to forge good principles so that students can achieve their goals. This is a safe place where students can dance, create, and be who they are. I strongly believe that Dance is for everyone and that is why I created this program.

This year we celebrate our fifth anniversary and to celebrate we partnered with
Artex Dance Theater with the goal of continuing to inspire our students and also to highlight the people in our community who positively impact society through the arts.

Thank you for your love and support
Jonathan Mendez, Artistic Director

Despite their struggles, Latinos celebrate life through their culture, tradition, and joy, uniting as a family. Their music gives them an identity and inspires optimism for a better future.

On September 4, 2014, while living in Buenos Aires, I joined thousands at the Legislature building to bid farewell to the great Gustavo Cerati, who had passed away that day after four years in a coma from a stroke he suffered following a concert in Caracas on May 15, 2010. It was a moment of shared grief and gratitude for his eternal music that unites millions of Latin Americans. Since that day, this project has been a dream fueled by love and dedication, and it became the centerpiece of my MFA thesis in Dance at Hunter College. I am deeply thankful to everyone who joined me on this journey, especially my dear friends, who not only participated in this work but have also been constant sources of inspiration and support. To my incredible community of dancers, both Latino and non‑Latino—some of you have stood by me since I moved to NYC and continue to stand by me today—algunos de ustedes siguen hasta hoy, GRACIAS TOTALES!
